A lifelong animal lover, Lori’s connection with animals began at a young age. Growing up, dogs were always a part of the family, and while cats were kept as outdoor companions on the family farm, Lori's affection for them was just as strong. Lori was a long-time resident of the rural Swift Current area, where she dedicated herself to her family, friends, and community. As a mother to her only son, she embodied the qualities of love, nurturing, and care. However, her love wasn’t limited to just her own family; she embraced everyone who came into her life. Friends of her son often found a second mother in Lori, and even into the next generation, she extended the same warmth and kindness to the children of her son's friends.

In 2009, tragedy struck Lori and her husband, Clayton, with the devastating loss of their only son. In the years that followed, she faced the heart-wrenching pain of losing her husband in 2018. Yet, despite the deep grief she carried, Lori never wavered in her support for others. Instead, she used her own experiences with loss to become a source of strength and guidance for others who were grieving. She often said that her personal pain made her uniquely qualified to help others through their struggles. Her compassion and understanding were powerful tools that she used to comfort and support anyone who needed it.

Throughout all of her trials, one thing remained constant: Lori’s deep love and commitment to animals. It was no secret that she was a passionate supporter of the SPCA Swift Current, an organization dedicated to providing humane care and shelter for animals in need. Lori believed strongly in their mission, and she dreamed of seeing a new, modern shelter built to give animals a better, safer place to call home. Her desire to make that vision a reality was something she held close to her heart.
